Balgonie Castle, Fife, Scotland

Balgonie Castle near Leven in Fife is one of the the oldest Scottish Tower houses still standing intact in Fife. It was built for Sir Thomas Sibbald of Balgonie and is regarded as one of the finest 14th century towers in Scotland.
On the ground floor is the Chapel, furnished with furniture saved from churches. This  room is illuminated only by candlelight which gives a very medieval atmosphere. The great hall upstairs is a fine location for a wedding or banquet.

Balgonie Castle is an interesting setting both for weddings and  corporate events from meals through to product launches. Also popular are corporate guided tours with tea and coffee or whisky followed by a falconry display in the Courtyard.

A turbine house using water from the River Leven was built nearby in 1922 by the Balgonie Colliery Co. The turbine was used as a source of power by a local paper mill in the 1980s and was brought back into action in the 1990s by a private power generating company.

The Castle has been used for a wide variety of events, such as fashion shoots, musician and pop group publicity shoots, book launches, archery displays, dog shows, concerts, recitals, plays, clan gatherings and more.
