Falkland Palace is steeped in so much fascinating history its difficult to know where to begin. Located in Falkland, Fife it has served as residence for Stewart monarchs and members of Scottish Royalty including Mary Queen of Scots. Who spent her very precious happy weeks here few as they were. Although built with humble beginnings – it started out as a hunting lodge in the 12th century. In the 15th century it was then given a massive makeover by James IV and James V into a beautiful Renaissance Palace. French architects designed the Palace and French craftsman carried out the vast task. Sadly the Palace did fall into a great state of disrepair but was then rescued by the National Trust, today it remains a simply captivating attraction with something for everybody. Garden enthusiasts will appreciate the beautiful well kept grounds designed by Percy Cane. Tennis lovers will enjoy seeing the oldest royal court in Britain which is still in use today and history fans will enjoy the original architecture and Flemish tapestries from the 17th century.
